I qualified as an acupuncturist in 2000, after 4 years of study and supervised clinical practice at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York. At the same time I became a Member of the British Acupuncture Council (MBAcC) which is the gold standard for an acupuncture practitioner. Over 11 years I worked at Napiers both in Stockbridge and Bristo Place and in 2012 moved to my own clinic, the Albany Street Clinic in the New Town where I see both general and fertility patients.
I am a Director of the Albany Street Clinic - a complimentary health clinic based in Edinburgh's New Town where I work with other experienced and well-qualified practitioners. I am also a Director of The Natural Fertility Centre assisting in natural conception and working alongside the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and the GCRM (Glasgow Centre for Reproductive Medicine) for couples undergoing IVF. I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council which is accredited by the Professional Standards Authority and am a Senior Associate of the Royal Society of Medicine. If you are looking for facial acupuncture, I qualified in this 5 years ago and it is an interesting and enjoyable aspect to my practice. Most facial patients find they leave the clinic with a healthy glow, a feeling of being refreshed and, over time, a reduction in signs of ageing or fatigue. Here's a short article on facial acupuncture and how it works.
I set up the Natural Fertility Centre in 2004 to offer a more comprehensive service and support network to couples, men and women. Jill Blakeway, owner of the YinOva centre in New York and author of bestseller 'The Fertility Plan' says
I also offer specific IVF acupuncture which supports the work of the different IVF drugs and helps to reduce side-effects. There are various package options to make things easier for you, such as the IVF Package which give you 6 treatments (the average to see you through IVF) for the price of 5. I also offer IVF information sessions where you can, individually or as a couple, find out more about the clinic options in the UK and abroad for IVF, egg donation and sperm donation.
I also enjoy working with people with sports related injuries or arthritis as the benefits of acupuncture can sometimes be immediate and profound. and have built on my general experience and training with courses of further study such as Advanced Needling Techniques and Maya Abdominal Massage in May 2007 and have attended specialist fertility training workshops by Zita West as well conferences on fertility (www.naturechild.co.uk and www.afc.com).
